My Project Life
January 1, 2008
Today is the official launch of My Project Life. I look forward to sharing many words with you.
The year is 2008. January 1st, marked by nutaryuk and brisk air. Nutaryuk is the Eskimo word for “freshly fallen snow on the ground”.
I began my year watching the end of Pride and Prejudice with my sister. I suddenly found myself enamored with Colin Firth’s intense portrayal of Mr. Darcy.
Fatigue overwhelmed me as 2008 took the helm of time. I went to bed with frigid feet, leaving the heat on as I slipped into sleep. Shortly before four o’clock, a dream told me, “You left the heater on.” The tone of voice suggested that I had been idiotic for my lack of vigilance. My eyes flew open, red numbers blazed a hot seventy seven. My nerves rebelled as I forced my muscles into movement. Off button. Click. Beep. Sigh of relief. I managed to not set fire to the house and I lived to see the day arrive. I will have 364 more mornings. Will I remember to always be present?
Several years ago, I recall telling a good friend, “Yesterday does not exist and tomorrow never comes. It is always today then, isn’t it?”.
