GROUNDING ENERGY

As you experience your everyday life, you interact with people and places. You also have thoughts and feelings that contribute to your overall mental and emotional health. The interactions you have with your self, others, and your physical location can all affect the amount of positive and negative energy you have.

To begin grounding energy, you might want to ground the energy of your physical surroundings. Suppose your bedroom is where you choose to meditate. Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes (or keep them open if you aren’t easily distracted) and imagine the room in your mind. Take a look around. What do you sense is in your presence?

I have read that to ground rooms and buildings, you should imagine columns of light to which you purposely move any negative energy. Then you imagine it flowing to the earth and being destroyed deep in the ground. When moving the negative energy to the earth, breathe in white, clear light, and upon slowly exhaling, push the negative energy out of your space. That is one way of going about it.

You can develop your own personalized grounding style. I was being a bit silly once and made layers of twinkling lights encase my room so that no energy that was not my own could remain. The lights are actually still there. This is of course all in my vivid imagination. I do believe we help create our own realities, seen and unseen, with our minds. Remember the power of your thoughts. Negative thoughts attract negative energy.

On occasions when I sense the dark is a little too dense… I use a vortex. It’s very effective. Perhaps this whole grounding thing sounds unusual, but if it does nothing else for you, it gives you peace of mind and truly acts as a layer of protection for your energy from lower vibrational beings.

Grounding the energy of your body is similar to grounding space. When I first began doing meditation, I did not call this part of meditating, grounding. I just allowed negative energy to fall out of me while laying down before going to sleep. You might want to check out one of my first posts, Simple Meditation to remember how to breathe. It really helps a lot. With more focus on breathing, you can feel your energy move.

People often imagine themselves as a tree. You have branches reaching up to the light, which gives you strength, and deep roots through which you can get rid of negativity and extra energy. This sort of imagery may not resonate with you. You may choose to send negative energy down through a cord, a rope, a chain, water strands.

I invented a metallic cylinder that was quite complex with gears, changing colors, and an engraved spiral. I do not use this imagined grounding mechanism as much anymore. I actually only just remembered it. I created it last March, and I have only used it sporadically after initial weeks of usage. Grounding seems to come with much more ease after doing it more often. The most difficult and important thing is to truly see the negative things falling away and being destroyed in the middle of the earth.

I have a friend who is probably very grounded without really knowing it. Her name is Mary. Her blog has some fine examples of grounding energy through spending time outside doing activities such as hiking. Taking walks are a pleasant way of becoming more positive. I often choose to take photographs while I am outside, just like Mary does. You should check out some of her photos of the West Coast. So lovely.

Being outside is enjoyable and easy to do. This past summer I noticed that my grandparents had a healthy glow about them. It made me very curious and I asked them what they had been up to lately. The response was that they had been outside all week cleaning up fallen branches on their property. They seemed very vibrant. I suppose for fellow Northeast dwellers, it’s difficult to spend long amounts of time out of doors in the winter… That is why you have to maintain your energy in other ways.

I searched for some educational websites about grounding. I am including three websites that I found to be helpful.

  • Energy Basics This page has many interesting aspects and I feel that it is a nice introduction to the energy you contain and how to manage it.
  • Centering, Grounding, & Protecting Your Energy The portion of the website I am directing you to is brief, but offers a meditation for you to try. I did not read anything else on this site and I have yet to try the meditation described.
  • Grounding This page is simply about grounding. It’s a quick, easy read and quite informative.

In love and light
