Blogroll Update

Date August 17, 2008

For people in the Binghamton area, I have added two pages to my blogroll.

If you are interested in wellness and nutrition, please visit the Wellness and Healing page of my friend Tracy. She has just moved back to the area. She is a massage therapist and nutritionist and she has written some excellent articles on her website. I encourage women to read what she has written about Gardasil, the “vaccine” for HPV.

I also added the Yoga Time Blog, where locals in the Binghamton area can keep up to speed with what is happening at Yoga Time and special Yoga Time events that occur throughout the year. I have just completed my fourth week of lessons with Paulette. Yoga Time is a wonderful place to practice Chinnamasta Yoga. The yoga is a combination of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga. I feel that I get a great workout and spiritual cleansing with every class.

Enjoy!

*Namaste*

Waking Up Early: Week Two

Date August 6, 2008

I have continued with the four day work week.

Last week marked week two, and I am well into week three.

The ten hour work day can seem a bit long… but it sure does beat going to work on Friday!

I have adapted quite well to the early sleep schedule.  I have set a bedtime of ten o’clock.  I haven’t always made it right on time, but it keeps me in check.  I have to admit, I hit the snooze button once most mornings.  Sleep feels so good… Although my dreams have been quite strange.

I should do some dream posts.  Hmmm…

Well, I was planning on writing more about waking up early each week but I don’t think I am going to continue.  I had believed previous to trying it out that it was going to sap the energy out of me and ruin my life, but alas, it hasn’t.   I am no more or less tired than ever before.  Everything feels the same.

Except Friday.

Friday feels wicked good.

:-)

First Yoga Class

Date July 25, 2008

Today I woke up early, without an alarm, by seven o’clock. If any of my readers know me… they realize this is highly unusual. I believe my new schedule is going to change my life.

As a result of waking up early and having a four day work week, I was able to attend my first yoga class today. After researching yoga studios in the Binghamton, NY area, I came across Yoga Time, located in Johnson City.

The studio is on the second floor. It is very spacious, has plenty of natural light, and a welcoming atmosphere. The owner and main teacher is Paulette Placek. She has created a wonderful place for people to relax and exercise at the same time. She also is a very positive and fun person to interact with.

I found that yoga is the exercise of several aspects of life:

  • Physical: I participated in many stretches and movements that opened up the paths of energy in my body. I believe that continuing to do yoga over time will provide me with the aerobics and toning I have been seeking. Perhaps I won’t have to buy that gym membership after all. Supporting a small local business is a perk for being a patron of Yoga Time
  • Mental: I found yoga to be similar to my meditation practice. The deep breathing came very easily to me thanks to making meditation a part of my regular energy cleansing habit. We did some positions and exercises that were meant to balance the left and right hemisphere of the brain. I was a bit out of sync at first, but the movements made me aware of this, and I eventually had more control. It was a wonderful experience.
  • Spiritual: As a result of some of the chanting and breathing we did, I felt anxiety and negativity fall away from me. I felt surrounded by beautiful and powerful energy. This happens often when I meditate, but not on this level. I could feel it throughout the room. I encourage those who are interested in getting in touch with their inner selves to seek out a place to practice yoga. I plan to continue.
  • Overall Body Health: We do not exist in the physical realm without our bodies. My first yoga class helped me feel more flexible, energized, positive, and balanced. I believe yoga will fit right in to my project, life.

Waking Up Early: Week One

Date July 24, 2008

I have switched to a four day work week.

Today is spiritually Friday for me.

I am very excited about this change in my life.  I hope everyone can give it a try someday.

So far, so good.

I knew that the most difficult thing for me would be going to bed on time and waking up early.  Right now, I should be in bed, maintaining my new sleep schedule.  However, I wanted to post about this, and decided not to procrastinate.

My observations about my body and habits:

It was difficult to fall asleep.

I had a bit of anxiety because I was trying to fall asleep much earlier than usual.

I eased myself into an earlier bed time beginning last Thursday and set my alarm earlier and earlier on the weekend.

I have meditated every night.

I eat more during the day because I am awake two hours earlier.

I am wicked tired right now.

As a side note, I have to pee just as bad as I want to sleep.

*Sweet Dreams*

Chakra Test Results

Chakra Test Results

I took a chakra test online at Eclectic Energies. I encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about chakras to visit that page. I am going to be writing a basic introduction to chakras when I write down my chakra meditation.

The results of this chakra test indicate that all of my chakras are open. I believe this to be true considering I work on them often. My throat chakra is apparently over-active. The additional information provided says that this means I do not listen well, and tend to talk too much. I immediately balked at this, therefore reinforcing the truthiness of this particular result. I realize that I am sometimes a non-listener. Words from others mouths sometimes fall flat on my ears. I also might talk over someone in conversation. I try to correct myself and apologize… but my mind is most likely the over-active culprit. I believe this stems from my passionate desire to share everything I am thinking with others during a conversation. To actually do so is impossible. My thoughts can go from point A to point Z in what seems like zero seconds. I will have to work on being a better listener and perhaps not voicing everything on my mind. I have found that blurting out blunt, honest opinions can also be hurtful to others.

Even if a person does not believe in the existence of chakras, the test can help you evaluate what you can work on within yourself.

Have fun checking out the page!

PS: My apologies for the slight blurriness of the screen shot.

Zen Habit

Date July 17, 2008

Ahh… July. How swiftly you arrived. You have been kind, with only a smattering of thunderous outbursts. I crave your heat waves in February. I can almost see the back of your head. I know you will leave me soon.

I just added a web page to my blogroll. I found the webpage as a result of seeking out advice on how to get up earlier. I am a night owl. I will be attempting to drastically alter my sleeping habits soon by working earlier in the morning. This will be quite the undertaking since I am in love with sleep.

Check out Zen Habits, which is linked in my blogroll.

Maybe I will learn how to get rid of all my belongings that I still have. I am apparently Waiting for Godot to come and take them away for me. How silly.

It’s fun to surf around- totally my kind of page.

Anyway.

I will be back.
